What is DTS?
The Discipleship Training School (DTS) seeks to bring you into a more intimate relationship with God. It also gives you an opportunity to discover your passions and your part in God’s purposes for the world. It is for those who long to follow Jesus in new ways with a different perspective.
The course is a full-time program that lasts five to nine months and is the prerequisite for not only becoming YWAM staff, but also for YWAM’s second-level training schools.
It consists of two parts: lecture phase and outreach phase.
In the lecture phase, you will learn more about God and His world, not only from lectures but also from community living and practical training. The outreach phase focuses on applying what you learned in the classroom through an intense, cross-cultural experience.
Our DTS begins at our training center at Sola, in the south west of Norway where living community conditions are simple and “koselig”. 10 amazing weeks of Bible based teaching will help you grow in Christ and become grounded in the foundations of our faith!
Each week will cover a specific topic such as Mission, Father-heart of God, God’s Character and Nature, Relationships, the Holy Spirit, etc. and each subject will be taught by wonderful teachers from Norway and around the world.
Note: The Backpacking focus only takes place during the outreach phase.
Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all that God has created!” and that’s just what we do!! After the Lecture Phase everyone will be spread across the world into the track you picked up to put all of our training into practice!
The countries we travel to change from year to year (and will very much depend on the outreach track you apply for), but some of our past outreach destinations had included India, The U.S., Ecuador, Tanzania, New Zealand, Brazil, Kenya, South Korea, Thailand, etc. And the outreach activities will vary depending on the opportunities you get, but some have previously consisted of evangelism, working in slums and refugee camps, children’s ministries, church planting, practical work, etc.
This is not a school for wimps!
While living in Norway can be rather comfortable for many nationalities, outreach is unpredictable and we can guarantee that you will be greatly challenged!! You will live out of a backpack for the entire outreach and travel often with your team, where living conditions are usually very simple, to often meet people in heartbreaking situations. Traveling is fun but it’s important to remember that cultures are different and can be shocking; you will be put in situations that will test and stretch you but at the same time you will have the privilege of giving hope and sharing God’s love to those who need it!!
”Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)
*This DTS is a University of the Nations registered course. The UofN is part of Youth with a Mission. A successfully completed DTS is a prerequisite to all other UofN training schools, degree programs and to work long term with YWAM.
